This Rostral Spine, or Denticle, is from a prehistoric Sawfish that is found in Cretaceous deposits throughout North Africa. Although the spines are barbed (unlike today’s Sawfish spines which are not barbed), the rostrum (snout; from which the spines protrude from) is thought to have served the same purpose as today’s Sawfish, for sensing and stunning prey, as well as defense.
